Mt. Stromlo

The Satellite Laser Ranging Observatory on Mt Stromlo (near Canberra, A.C.T)  is managed by Geoscience Australia  and measures accurately the distances of orbiting satellites. Destroyed by the January 2003 bush fires, the rebuilt facility reopened on 1 April 2004 and became operational again on 1 December 2004.  It is adjacent to but does not form part of the ANU Mt Stromlo Observatory, which shares the same mountain top.
